Demonstration of sample design elements such as plants

Taking along samples of the materials and elements which may or will be included in urban greening interventions is a great way of getting people interested and engaged with the designs. Being able to touch and feel the materials and plants brings the designs alive. In co-design workshops it can be useful to show examples of different options so that participants can better understand the requirements and the possibilities. The designs they come up with will then be both unique to their situation and also more realistic. Potted plants can be used to demonstrate how different plants look, feel and smell, as well as their properties and growing preferences. This technique can be adapted for co-design days with adults and for school visits.
