A wetland has been created in the Templeborough district near Rotherham, with an area of 4 hectares. The wetland is situated on the shores of the River Don, and serves two purposes. Firstly, the new wetland protects Rotherham against water, and secondly the wetland forms a missing ecological link between the Peak District and the Rotherham and Sheffield centres. The remnants of the industries once based here have been incorporated into the design and now form new biotopes. The wetland is crossed by the bicycle route from Rotherham to Sheffield. The area is under the management of Wildscapes and the Wildlife Trust for Sheffield and Rotherham. Wildscapes and Wildlife Trust, 2011
